KGGS Uniform Policy

This information is provided for guidance and may not be updated as and when changes are made by school.  Please also refer directly to KGGS.

Uniform is worn by all KGGS students until the end of Year 11.

  • The purpose of uniform at KGGS is to allow students to look smart and feel part of our community, whilst projecting the best possible image of our school.  Please therefore only purchase approved uniform items.
  • In selecting uniform, school try to make the choice simple and unambiguous so that the uniform policy is easily understood, whilst taking into account the cost and ensuring items are easily available.
  • Students are expected to wear the correct uniform at all times during the school day, including on journeys to and from school.  They should also have the correct equipment with them at all times.

NEARLY–NEW UNIFORM

The school holds a small stock of nearly new uniform.  Items of uniform which have been outgrown, but which are of good condition, may be brought to school where they will be made available for sale on New Intake Day.  If you require second hand uniform at any other time, please telephone reception to make an appointment.

OTHER EQUIPMENT

Textbooks and stationery are provided by the school, but we do ask that students have the following items of equipment:

  • A plain black or navy waterproof school bag or rucksack (designed to hold books and A4 files – not a fashion handbag).
  • A KGGS student planner (purchased from school).
  • A pen.
  • Pencils (HB), a 30 cm ruler, pencil, crayons and a rubber.

A scientific calculator – available to purchase through school.

MAKE-UP, JEWELLERY & HAIR STYLES

  • Make-Up – This should be discreet.
  • Necklaces and bracelets - should not be worn in school owing to obvious health and safety concerns; however, discreet crosses (which will have to be removed during practical lessons) are allowed on a long chain and should not be visible.
  • Earrings - Students may wear one pair of small gold or silver studs, one stud to be worn in each earlobe. Ear studs must be removed for PE lessons and cannot be covered over. Facial piercings are NOT acceptable.
  • Hair - Unusual hairstyles and hair colours are NOT acceptable.

MOBILE PHONES & SMART WATCHES

We prefer students not to bring mobile phones, smart watches or other electrical items to school as they often cause more problems than they solve.  However, if a student feels she needs to carry a mobile phone or smart watch for the journeys to and from school, we expect it to be turned off and kept out of sight throughout the school day.  Mobile phones or smart watches will be confiscated if seen during the school day and will not be returned until a parent collects it from our main reception.  There is a procedure to be followed within school if a student is ill and needs to go home. A student should not contact home herself on these occasions. Mobile phones and smart watches are not to be used for communicating with friends or home during the school day. In an emergency, students are allowed to use the telephone situated in the pastoral office.  The school will not accept responsibility for lost or stolen mobile phones, smart watches or other electrical items.  Please see our Mobile phone and MP3 Policy on our school website for further details.
